Gremlins

Hello fellow bloggers!! Yesterday, I watched a favorite movie from my past. The movie is Gremlins. Joe Dante directed, while Chris Columbus wrote the story. Gremlins stars Zach Galligan, Phoebe Cates, and Hoyt Axton. This movie came out in 1984.

The movie follows a boy who gets a present from his father. It is a mogwai that has three specific rules that should never be broken. 1. NO WATER 2. NO FOOD AFTER MIDNIGHT 3. NO SUNLIGHT Soon minature green monsters tear through the town of Kingston Falls. These monsters have came from the new pet, Gizmo, the boy has just received. Gizmo has been fed after midnight and has had water spilt on him. As soon as this occurs, he curls up and balls of hair start shooting out of him. These balls of hair soon turn into gremlins that terrorize the town. So, when your washing machine goes KABOOM, or your TV starts freaking out, before you call the repair man, turn on all the lights and look under your all your beds. You can never tell, there just might be a gremlin in your house.
I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys comedic, horror film. I loved this movie as a kid and still love it to this day.
This is after the cute little guy gets water, food after midnight, or sunlight!

Fast Times at Ridgemont High

What a change this week!! I didn't watch my movie on Sunday but Monday this week... I loved just kickin back on a Monday and watchin a great 80's flick. The movie I watched this week was Fast Times at Ridgemont High. This movie was directed by Amy Heckerling, go women!! It starts Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Judge Reinhold.

The storyline follows a group of California teenagers who live the real-life adventures of Cameron Crowe. Stacy Hamilton (Leigh) and Mark Ratner are looking into one another for a love interest. They are helped by their older classmates, Linda Barrett and Mike Damone. The center of the whole film is held by Jeff Spicoli (Penn). He is a stoned super dude who faces off with his teacher, Mr. Hand. Mr. Hand is convinced that everyone is on dope. What happens when Spicoli and Hand face off?? Watch this movie and find out!!

I recommend this movie to any teenager that likes an old time comedy. If anyone enjoyed Dazed and Confused, you would definitely enjoy Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

Labyrinth

As you all know, I spend my Sunday evenings sitting down with a good 80's flick. Well this Sunday, I watched a movie that I was afraid of for a very long time. The movie is called Labyrinth. This film was made in 1986 and was directed by Jim Henson. Labyrinth stars the famous singer, David Bowie, the actress, Jennifer Connelly, and young actor, Toby Froud.

The movie's over all story is about a 15-year-old girl, Sarah (Connelly), who wishes her baby brother, Toby (Froud), away to the Goblin King Jareth (Bowie). Jareth will keep Toby if his Sarah doesn't complete the labyrinth in 13 hours. Young Sarah is left at home with Toby who cries all the time. While Sarah is telling Toby a story to make him sleep, she conjures up a fantasy world with a goblin king that steals babies and places them in the middle of a labyrinth and the rescuer must complete the labyrinth before midnight or the baby will turn into a goblin. Little did Sarah know that her fantasy was soon going to be true. Does Sarah save her brother before midnight, or does he turn into a goblin? Watch the movie and find out!! :)

I would recommend this movie to teenagers and above. Reason being, when I was younger, I was so afraid of this movie. I always thought that I was going to be in the middle of the labyrinth and turn into a goblin, because no one could make it in time. I like the movie now and like to sit down and view it without thinking that I am going to be a goblin. :p

The Goonies

This weekend I watched the well known movie, The Goonies. The film was directed by Richard Donner in 1985. Steven Spielberg wrote the story of the film and the screenplay was written by Chris Columbus. Starring in this movie are Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, and Jeff Cohen. The Goonies is classified as an Adventure/Comedy/Family film.

The movie is about a group of kids who go on a wild journey after finding a pirate treasure map. Mikey Walsh (Astin) and his brother Brandon Walsh (Brolin) are preparing to move because some developers are wanting to build a golf course. The only way that this couldn't happen would be if they raised enough money to stop construction. Mikey stumbles upon a treasure map of the famous "One-Eyed" Willy's hidden fortune and asks his brother and his friends to join him in finding the treasure. Mikey, Brandon, Chuck, Mouth, Andy, Stef, and Data set out on their adventure to find this treasure in hopes of saving their neighborhood. The treasure is in a cavern and the carvern entrance is under the house of the evil theif, Mama Fratelli, and her three sons. Her disfigured son, Sloth, becomes friends with The Goonies and helps them on their journey.

I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes an old Adventure/Family film. Kids really enjoy this film just like I did when I watched it growing up. My favorite part is when Sloth comes in on a rope and says the famous line, "Hey you guys!!" and saves the children from the dangers of the cavern and what it contains inside. Cyndi Lauper makes an appearance in this movie and she also does the music for the sound track.
